Living in a Split Level House Means Forever Climbing Stairs.

What is a Side Split House?

split house or side split house is a residential dwelling in which three or four different floors are staggered and connected with half-flights of stairs. The garage is typically on the ground floor beside an entrance foyer which accesses the kitchen, dining and living room. The bedrooms are upstairs and from outside you can see all the different levels and it looks cozy from the street.

What is a Rear Split House?

A rear split house is a split-level home where the rear of the house is at a different level than the front. This architectural design often features a layout in which the main entrance opens onto the middle level where there are common living spaces such as the kitchen and dining area. The bedrooms are above the main level, while on a lower level, partially below ground on sloping terrain, there are additional living spaces like a family room, utility room, or garage.

Split-Level Homes are either Side Splits or Rear Splits

Back splits are like what’s described above except the central connecting stairway is at the rear of the house. The main floor consists of a garage, entry, plus a kitchen and dining room with a short staircase leading up to bedrooms, or down to a family room, gym, or office.  Rear splits are best when there’s a deck, patio, or backyard attraction on the property.

Split Level Homes Are Ideal for Sloping Lots

Because of their customizable vertical designs, split level homes are frequently built on hilly or sloping terrain which could not otherwise accommodate a ranch-style home.  Such design instances have good aesthetic benefits and can add unique value to a property.

Can you build a Home Addition on a Split-level House?

Split-level houses can be upscaled into gorgeous luxury homes with smart architectural designs. These boxy residences generally have long narrow halls with small rooms upstairs which Eastview can open-up to make them larger, handier, and more purposeful. A rear addition can change the floorplan entirely and a second story addition can convert attic space into lofty bedrooms with cozy window dormers. The work typically starts in the basement and once the house is properly underpinned, the whole structure can be manipulated with floors being raised and lowered as necessary.

Choose Eastview to Renovate Your Side Split Home

Rather than selling and buying a bigger house, consider remodelling your side split or rear split home to keep everything you like, while adding more space and reshaping those elements which most need improvement.

Renovating your existing house is usually more affordable than buying a new home and your children won’t have to change schools. Eastview will remodel your split level house to make it ideal for your family for years to come.

Eastview adds style by creating stately front entrances with attractive doors complete with side windows to brighten the interior. Exterior renovations can extend your roof over the front of your house to make a relaxing outdoor space framed with attractive columns. Rear additions with bay windows and patio doors will draw more sunlight into your home. Kitchen remodelling and second-story additions are great ways to enhance your current living space.

We hired Eastview Homes to renovate our entire main floor and Keith brought a lot of good ideas. We were so impressed  by the entire team’s professionalism. They cleaned up each night which is a nice touch. We couldn’t be more happy with the results and now it’s like we’re living in a brand new house.

From the very beginning of our renovation experience with Eastview Homes, the communication was great! It was very reassuring to know that Keith was there to answer any of our questions. Keith worked hard with us to find the best cost effective solutions, and made sure we were promptly updated with any changes.

I have worked with Keith over the past several years on numerous homes and additions, but never on my own home. As an architect, attention to detail is paramount. We contracted Eastview Homes to build a rear addition and kitchen to replicate the existing Arts and Crafts era character of the original house. The work was executed remarkably well in a timely fashion.

Rerouting laundry into the basement to expand the mudroom in the garage entry. Keith’s team is stellar, everyone was very friendly and professional. They made me feel very comfortable throughout the process. The quality of the job was top notch and we are very satisfied with the job.

We wanted to open up our main floor to create an open concept feel in the kitchen/living room. Keith suggested we put a flush mount beam in the ceiling to open the space up and also to have a seamless transition between the two rooms. I couldn’t be happier with the finished product and we are excited to be moving back into our new home!

The communication of schedules and on going work made it easy for our family to continue to live in our home during construction without any disruptions. From quotation to design to final product, Eastview Homes  should be your only choice. We plan on working with them again in the near future on another project.

Our plan was to redo the kitchen and both of the bathrooms in the house. Keith suggested we remove the load bearing wall between the living room and the kitchen to give the war time house an open concept feel. Glad we did, Keith and his crew showed up when they said they would  and were very thorough with their work at every stage of the process.
